Ottawa, Ontario to Munising, Michigan
Day's distance: 997km
Total to date: 997km
Temperature range: 16C in Ottawa; 34C in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; 25C in Munising when I arrived at 9:30pm.
Well, packing took longer than anticipated, got to bed very late, and got on the road late at 7am. I was just too tired to make it to Houghton, Michigan, so stopped for the night in Munising, about 2 hours short of Houghton.
The ride from Ottawa to Mattawa was quite pleasant with sunny skies and moderate temperatures. After turning towards North Bay, the road worsened, and there were delays with considerable construction. Sudbury to the Soo was hot (typically 29C) with a blustery head wind and lots of traffic (ie, trucks). The bridge from Canada to the US at Sault Ste. Marie is beautiful and the border crossing was uneventful. My GPS then routed me onto SR-28 through the middle of the upper peninsula. SR-28 was surprisingly straight! And rather boring. Riding into the sun for the last two hours was unpleasant.
Tomorrow will be another long day - probably 14 hours in the saddle, but I anticipate the ride to Houghton will be more scenic than what I've experienced so far. And, I'll be visiting Aerostich in Duluth to do a little shopping...

Not too many photos today, but I did get some...
Reminded of Charlie's memorable question on CTV's Lost... "Guys, where are we???"
