Missoula, Montana to Nelson, British Columbia
Day's distance: 640km
Total to date: 5,477km
Temperature range: 18C when I left Missoula and about 23C in Nelson
A cold front seemed to come through today, although the day was mostly sunny. Refreshing. Highway 93 up to the Canadian border was scenic with sweeping curves, following a valley between two mountain ranges (one of which was the Mission Mountain Range). The highway continued as 93 into Canada. At Cranbrook I turned left onto the Crowsnest Highway (which I'll visit again next Friday on my way to Waterton National Park). The Crowsnest Highway (#3) is busy with lots of bikers - wonder what's going on, or if this is normal? At Creston I turn right onto 3A which is an excellent motorcycle road. Twisty, up and down, little traffic even on a Saturday, and no cops! I push the Wing to my limits and manage to get to the ferry at Kootenay Bay with five minutes to spare. Crossing Kootenay Lake on the free ferry was a nice break. At Balfour, my cousin was waiting for me on her Honda 750 shadow and led me to her house in Nelson where I'll stay for two nights.
